Embroidered Flower Pot Cozy

I had no idea embroidering was so addicting! I had some left over jean fabric from my DIY EMBROIDERY HOOP SIGN, so I made a cozy for my flower pot. I've been thinking about making a cozy for my coffee cup so why not these gorgeous flowers. I can't say enough great things about my brother project runway sewing machine, so that's what I used to sew this project. It's great for beginners - like me.  But of course, you can easily sew this by hand, as well.

Materials

·         Jean fabric

·         Embroidery hoop

·         Embroidery floss (gold)

·         Inexpensive plastic flower pot

·         tape measure

·         scissors

·         chalk pencil

·         thread

·         sewing pins

·         embroidery/sewing needles

·         sewing machine (optional)

Step 1: Use your measuring tape to take measurements of the width and height of your pot. For example, the pot I used is 18 inches all the way around and 5 inches high.  You will also need to trace around the top of the pot over a piece of fabric.  This will be the base of your plant cozy.

Step 2: Cut the all the fabric according to your measurements.

Step 3: Use your chalk pencil to hand draw your message in the center of the fabric.

Step 4: Use your embroidery loop to secure the fabric. Thread your embroidery needle and use a simple back stitch to embroider your message.

Step 5: Fold over the top of your fabric and secure with sewing pins. Sew the top of your fabric by hand or do as I did and use one of the embroidery settings on your sewing machine for a little added texture.

Step 6: Sew the two sides of your fabric together.

Step 7: Use sewing pins to attach the circular base fabric all the way around the bottom of the plant cozy.

Step 8:  Sew the bottom of the cozy.

Step 9: Finally, add the flower pot and sell as is, or if you’re selling at a craft fair, add soil and flowers.

I embroidered "grow" for some added encouragement, but another idea - if you grow herbs - would be to embroider the type of herb on the front front of it's cozy.
