DIY Bouquet of Sharpened Pencils
What's your favorite Fall movie?
"You've Got Mail" is my favorite Falliday movie of all time! I could watch it a million times and never get bored of it! Nothing can beat the timeless, romantic, dynamic duo that is Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, all the holiday coffee shop scenes, the cute shops, the New York City backdrop, and heck, even the movie soundtrack is freakin' magical!
Since Fall is right around the corner and this IS back to school season I thought I would make a Pencil DIY inspired by these famous lines in the movie:
"If I knew where you lived, I would send you a bouquet of sharpened pencils."
So if you're a Fall fanatic, like me, join me in counting down the days to the PSL 2.0, Amazon Prime or Netflix your favorite Fall movie, and let's get our seasonal crafting on!
- Tulle, about 3 inches in width (I used Red and Gold with sparkles)
- Pencils (from the dollar store)
- Small book or cardboard (I used A Lovely Love Story, which is pretty much the greatest dinosaur love story of all time)!
- Green craft paint ( used Martha Stewart Crafts in Pesto)
- Small paint brush (not pictured...oops!)
Paint each pencil (two coats may be necessary) and use a small box to prop them up while they dry.
Make sure your book or cardboard is 6 inches long then place the pencil on the book and wrap the pencil and book about with tulle about 20 times.
Carefully, slide the tulle off the book and tie the center with a 6 inch piece of tulle (yup the pencil is still in there)!
Cut through the tulle on each end.
Pull the tulle up the pencil towards the eraser but make sure it stays on the pencil.
Fluff the tulle to look like flower petals.
Finally, sharpen pencils and keep in a vase for a little added home decor. You'll never have to go around looking for something to write with again since they're so easy to spot across the room!
I found tulle is really easy to work with, and they make great hypo-allergenic flowers :)
Made with love,
