A Charming Project

Easy DIY Plant Hanger

Macrame (knotted) plant hangers are trending everywhere these days. From store front windows at anthropology to diy blogs. I tried a few different versions using ropes and beads and decided to share this easy version so you can bring some of that retro charm into your home! I would eventually like to have an entire corner of my living room dedicated to hanging plants. But we are still in the process of moving into our 60's inspired pad so this will have to do for now.

Supplies:

  • A potted plant (I used a succulent from my last upcycled project
  • 4 beads for this project ( I photographed 5 beads for no reason at all...)
  • White yarn, floss or rope (only 99 cents at most fabric stores)
  • Scissors
  1. Begin with 12 stings and made a simple knot to tie them all together. This is the top of the plant hanger.
  2. Separate 4 rows of 3 strings each
  3. String one bead through each row
  4. Depending how long you want the planter to be, make a knot in each row (parallel to each other) to keep beads in place. Each bead should sit nicely on each knot. If you don't want the knot to show pull the bead over it. You may need to make double or triple knots depending on the size of your beads
  5. About 4 inches below the beads, make a simple knot to tie rows 1 and 2 together, and then do the same with rows 3 and 4.
  6. 3 inches below those last knots you will make tie together rows 1 and 3 and rows 2 and 4
  7. Lastly, 2 inches below the last set of knots gather all the rows together and tie them together in a knot. Leave the remaining stands dangling.

Here is another version I tried but just using 4 rows of 2 string each

I hung these side-by-side at different lengths and hope to add more to this collection in the next few months.

Made with love,

Enid
